Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 16: The Prosecution Department of the Union Territory of J&K announced that three bail pleas were dismissed by the Courts of Districts Samba and Jammu, a result of sustained and evidence-driven Prosecution.
On 15 October 2026, the Additional Sessions Judge Samba Arvind Sharma dismissed the bail applications of Jagpreet Singh and Neeraj Jaiswal @ Romi in FIR No. 31/2023 of Police Station Ramgarh. The case involves cross- border, drone-dropped narcotics, the use of a Glock pistol and serious injuries to two local youths. The Ld. Public Prosecutor, Kuldeep Bhat, argued that the accused acted as local guides, that the rigour of Section 37 of the NDPS Act is attracted due to the commercial quantity involved and that granting bail would send a wrong message to society. The Court agreed, citing the heinous nature of the crime, the logistical support and harbouring attributed to the accused and the second applicant's past antecedents. The Court's orders also reflect the Prosecution's commitment to speedy justice. In line with the Hon'ble High Court's direction to conclude the trial within three months, the Prosecution examined 29 witnesses in just 2.5 months, with 46 judicial hearings held at the shortest possible intervals.
On 14 October 2026, the Principal Sessions Judge, Jammu Tahir Khursheed Raina, dismissed the anticipatory bail application of the applicant, Rajat Pal Singh, in FIR No. 268/2026 under Section 318(4) BNS, registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar and cancelled his interim protection. The Ld. Public Prosecutor Himanshu Parkash, relied on the Investigating Officer's status report, which cited bank statements, CCTV footage, the admission of one of the accused and the recovery of Rs. 47,200. Further, the applicant was not present in court when the application was called for hearing and the counsel appearing on his behalf failed to apprise the court of his whereabouts. Given the serious nature of the allegations against the applicant, Rajat Pal Singh and the clear admission recorded in the status report, the Court finds no merit or justification in extending the privilege of this discretionary relief, particularly when the applicant is absent.
The Department commends its Ld. Public Prosecutors for dedication and diligence and reiterates its resolve to oppose bail in serious offences and safeguard public safety.
