| Manufacturing cattle feed not easy task here | | | CHAMAN KAUL JAMMU: Manufacturing cattle feeds and poultry feeds is not easy task for feed industrialists in Jammu. On one hand costly ingredients have to be imported from outside the state and on the other hand costs of locally manufactured products are being hampered by the produce of other states imported for sale with reasonable rates as compared to former. Molasses an ingredient being imported only by the license holders of which government has levied taxes at the rate of Rs 5000 per annum. Not only this industrialists engaged in manufacturing feeds are not getting any exemption or relaxation. Introverted with the manufacturing and sales of cattle feeds, industrialists are now concentrating in manufacturing poultry feeds which have more demand comparatively as commercial units are directly liked with. For poultry feeds all the ingredients are being imported from out side state with no provisions of freight subsidy or any other concessions, sources in industrial sectors informed and added that government is charging merely Rs 1 per bird as toll tax and which force import in worth millions of tones of produce. “If government charges toll tax according to weight of birds or increase the rate from Rs.1 to Rs 5 per birth huge increase in state exchequer will be achieved, suggested experts and added that government should make efforts to balance the rates of importers with the local manufacturers to avoid confusion among the two. “State units are dying because government seems to be ignorant towards them and exporters from out side the state obliviously hamper the market share of local unit holders” said Director Chinar Feeds Private Limited Suresh Langer. He added that policy should be formulated so that the interest of local unit holders does not suffer. He suggested an animal weighing about 200 KGs should be given 100gms feed per day. “I can not effort costly feeds for my cattle as being a farmer I earn my and my family’s livelihood on the livestock” said a peasant Daya Singh of R. S Pura. He said that whatever is of reasonable rate and choice of shopkeepers we buy that brand to offer our livestock.
