| Art 370 obstruction in national integrity: Rajnath | | | AD SINGH Jammu, June 23: The BJP President Rajnath Singh has said that Article 370 an obstruction in the National integrity and remarked that the Kashmir issue should be handled strictly by the Center and should not be allowed to set a question mark on the unity and integrity of India. Singh was speaking at a function, attended among others by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, on the occasion of death anniversary of Bhartiya Jana Sangh founder Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerjee foundation. The session was marked with the debates on the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and the separatist forces acting behind it as a hindrance to the National integrity. The session commenced with the introductory note by Dr. Harshvardhan who after putting a light on the life of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee highlighted the cause of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation, which had organized today’s function. Rajnath Singh criticized the Congress government for its weak policies towards national integration. Without referring to Article 370, the RSS and BJP chiefs said they would continue to be inspired by the martyrdom of Mukherjee for opposing the two flags and two constitutions in the same country. Reaffirming his party’s commitment to Hindutva, BJP President said his party was committed to Hindutva and “would not give up that ideology simply because it lost the elections”. “Call it cultural nationalism, Indianness or Hindustanism, we are committed to our ideology of Indian nationalism, which offers space and accommodation to one and all”. “The elections were elections, not a referendum on ideology. Victories and defeats do not change the ideologies of parties,” he added. The BJP President also said the Lok Sabha elections were not a referendum on the ideology of the party. On the sidelines of the function he also said that peace and stability in Pakistan was in “our interest” and India should offer “all support” to combat terrorism in that country. RSS, Sarsanghchalak, Bhagwat said that Sangh will always stick to the ideology oif Hindutva and said those looking for options other than “Bharat aur Bhartiyata” (India and Indianism) should look at what is happening in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Tibet - the parts of India that got separated. “What is happening in Pakistan should be an eye opener,” he said. Further explaining Hindutva he said “When we say we are Hindus, we are not referring to a particular religion, we are referring to loyalty to a nation, which embraces one and all irrespective of the fact what language they speak or which mode of worship they practice.” The two leaders, at the function in the Jammu University’s auditorium, said they would continue fighting against the divisive forces in India. The debate of the issue of J&K and the National Integrity commenced with the lecture of Retd. Brig. Suchet Singh who linked the terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir with the separatist forces acting to keep Kashmir disintegrated from rest of India. He raised the question on the need of the special status for Jammu and Kashmir even when the Instrument of Accession signed by the then Maharaja of the State was exactly similar to that signed by the other princely states. He termed this special status as an instrument of discrimination exploited by the administrators of the State to discriminate the regions of Jammu and Ladakh against Kashmir. He pointed towards the discriminatory and dictatorial policies of the Government in the State which has led to the identity crises of Kashmiri Pandits and pointed towards Article 370 as an element encouraging the separatist powers in the State. Thupstan Chhewang, President, U.T. Morcha, Ladakh who presided over the function acknowledged the unity shown by the people of Jammu during the Amarnath protest and remarked it as an inspiration for the Ladakhi Buddhists for their struggle to preserve their identity. He raised a question mark on the intentions of the people asking for autonomy with the remark that how can the people demanding an autonomous state accommodate others in it? He further expressed that seeking the Union Territory status for Ladakh is the ultimate goal of his struggle. He even beseeched upon the government of India to learn from the examples established by US in matters of handling terrorism.
