Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 5: Govt. SPMR College of Commerce successfully hosted its first-ever Diwali Fest, marking a historic and vibrant milestone in the institution's history. Organised under the able guidance of the Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Gupta, the 2026 festival transformed the campus into a lively hub of creativity and business acumen. Inaugurating the event, the Principal praised the faculty and students for their immense dedication and collaborative efforts. Emphasising his progressive vision for the institution, he noted that the festival stands as living proof that education extends beyond books and is fundamentally about building future entrepreneurs and leaders. Prof. Rekha Gupta, Head of the Commerce Department and Convener of the Diwali Fest Committee, apprised the gathering about the event's core vision. Celebrating the initiative as a fest "by the students & for the students," the committee highlighted the practical value of the day. While textbooks teach theoretical concepts of marketing, finance, customer handling, and profit and loss, the Diwali Fest allowed students to actively live and practice these skills. The event served as real-world education where students learned how to price a product, attract customers, manage inventory, and maintain a smile even during slow sales. The spirit of entrepreneurship, creativity, and celebration was on full display as students across various disciplines, including B.Com, BCA, BBA, and M.Com, set up diverse and engaging stalls. Showcasing their artistic talents, students offered festive decor and handicrafts such as handmade torans, diyas, and scented candles alongside creative arts like pipe cleaner bouquets, Lippan art, keychains, and crochet items. A wide culinary variety was also available, ranging from bakery goods, homemade chocolates, and mocktails to savoury snacks like chips chaat, chilla, and idli. Additionally, students successfully ran lifestyle and beauty stalls offering handmade press-on nails, perfumes, attar, and intricate mehndi applications. The landmark event not only celebrated the festive season but successfully bridged the gap between classroom theory and practical business experience, reflecting the true spirit of modern education. The programme was coordinated by Prof. Suresh Sharma Sadhotra. The smooth and successful conduct of the festival was ensured by the dedicated members of the Diwali Fest Committee, which included Dr. Deepshikha Sharma, Dr. Sunal Sharma, Prof. Shallu Gupta, Dr. Fayza, Dr. Rajni Sharma, Dr. Jasvinder Singh, Dr. Mamta Rani, Prof. Asha Rani, Ravi Kumar, Gurcharn Singh, Suresh Sharma, Dr. Goldy Mahajan, Dr. Lekha Nagar, and Naresh Kumar. |
