Nayab Singh Saini on Thursday addressed a gathering organised on the occasion of the 'Loktantra Bachao-Arajakta Hatao' Padyatra in Karnal. Union Home and Cooperation Minister Sh. Amit Shah flagged off the Padyatra. Union Minister Sh. Manohar Lal, Haryana BJP In-charge and former Union Minister Smt. Smriti Irani, BJP State President Dr. Archana Gupta, Cabinet Ministers Sh. Krishan Lal Panwar, Sh. Rao Narbir Singh, Sh. Mahipal Dhanda, Dr. Arvind Sharma and Sh. Krishan Bedi, Minister of State Sh. Gaurav Gautam, Deputy Speaker Dr. Krishan Middha, Government Chief Whip and MLA Sh. Ram Kumar Kashyap, MLAs Sh. Jagmohan Anand, Sh. Bhagwan Dass Kabirpanthi and Sh. Yogender Rana, along with senior office-bearers, a large number of citizens and party workers, were present. Welcoming Union Home and Cooperation Minister Sh. Amit Shah to the sacred land of Haryana, the Chief Minister said the Opposition was spreading misleading propaganda regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He said Karnal, the city of Danveer Karna, is known for its rich tradition of sacrifice, service and generosity. In a democracy, the right to vote is every citizen's most important right, ensuring their participation in shaping the future of the country and the state. The Chief Minister said that strengthening democracy requires ensuring that every eligible citizen's name is included in the electoral roll and that they can exercise their franchise without any hindrance. The Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls is an important exercise in this direction, aimed at making electoral rolls more accurate, transparent and reliable. The Chief Minister said the government's firm resolve is to ensure that no eligible citizen is deprived of the right to vote. Names of deceased persons, duplicate entries and erroneous records in electoral rolls should be examined in accordance with the rules and corrected through due process. He appealed to the people of Haryana to verify their names and those of their family members in the electoral rolls and, in case of any discrepancy, file claims or objections before the concerned electoral officer in accordance with the prescribed procedure. Drawing an analogy with the cleaning of homes before Diwali, the Chief Minister said that just as people clean their homes ahead of the festival, maintaining the accuracy and transparency of electoral rolls is equally essential for strengthening the democratic system. He emphasised that the exercise is not directed against any individual or section of society but is intended to further strengthen democracy. He urged the youth to remain aware of democratic processes, understand the facts, respect constitutional institutions and fulfil their duties alongside exercising their rights. He said Haryana is known for its hard work, honesty, brotherhood and patriotism, and preserving these social and constitutional values is a collective responsibility. |
