This year’s Hajj pilgrimage to cost more

Srinagar, June 27: The pilgrim, intending to undertake hajj this year, pay nearly thirty thousand more from those who performed holy pilgrimage last year with government attributing rise to the hike in accommodation in the Mecca city in Saudi Arabia.
According to the reports reaching , despite the fact that there has been no change in subsidy on the airfare, there is an increase upto Rs 30000 on the total amount incurred by the pilgrim on various categories set by the government for undertaking the pilgrimage.
“I had kept a particular amount ready for last two years but eventually I had to arrange about sixty thousands for myself and my wife to be able to take the much awaited Hajj pilgrimage this year,” said Abdul Ahad Khan of Lal Bazar.
Khan and his wife failed to go through the draw of lots stage last year to be allowed to take the holy pilgrimage. “I felt jubilated to find name in draw of lots this time after two years but find it bit hard to arrange the extra money,” he added.
Six thousands fifteen people from Kashmir are selected to take the holy pilgrimage this year while state chief minister Omar Abdullah has appealed centre government to enhance the quota.
State Hajj Committee announced the rates for the Hajj-2009 and the pilgrims were asked to submit the amount by June 20.
A G Shahbaz, chairman Jammu and Kashmir, State Haj Committee, told that the hike was forced by the increase in the accommodation in the holy city.
“Many accommodation structures including hotels and hutments have been razed down in Mecca this year and as a result of which there is increase in the lodging charges,” AG Shahbaz said.
An official handout said that the State Hajj Committee has fixed Rs 1, 40, 000 from the pilgrims availing the facility for Green Deluxe, Rs 1, 20, 000 for Green Ordinary, Rs 1, 10,000 for White dwar Kudai and Azizya, the amount to be paid by the Pilgrim has been fixed at Rs 1, 02, 000.
“The green deluxe accommodation is at 600 meters radius from Al-Haram and the Saudi people charge 5000 riyal while for Green ordinary, which is 1000 meters radius from Al-Haram is 3500 riyal. For white it is 2800 riyal being at radius of 1600 meters while for White dwar Kudai and Azizya (in radius of 2.5 kilometers from Al-Haram),it is 2300 riyals,” he added.
A G Shahbaz, chairman State Haj Committee, stressed said that there has been on change in subsidy on the pilgrimage.
