Ralways make 12 CCTVs functional
9/26/2006 10:08:55 PM

Jammu,September 26 :-Out of 16 CCTVs,12 CCTVs have been made functional on the Jammu railway station. The entire CCTV network had collapsed over a month ago forcing the security personnel to resort to manual screening of passengers.
Railways authorities said that experts from a private company had been brought to Jammu and they have so far rectified the fault of 12 CCTVs out of 16. SSP Crime and Railways,Mr Sunil Sharma, told Kashmir Independent Press on Tuesday that after making 12 CCTvs functional several measures have been taken in hand to
prevent the close circuit TV system from collapsing again.
He said on the suggestions of the experts it has been decided not to allow more than two security officials inside the control room of the CCTV system because the experts had stated that the control room’s temperature had gone up because of presence of a large number of officials in the room.
He said there was a plan to shift the control room to a new place where even the senior officers of the Crime and Railways and Railway Protection Force were able to monitor the images through the CCTV.
Mr Sharm said that the system had to be rectified speedily because of the current heavy ruish of pilgrims to Mata Vaishnov Devi shrine. He said that “our wing and that of the RPF have strengthened the entire security grid right from Udhampur to Pathankot in order to ensure incident free journey of pilgrims.”
He said that additional security personnel have been deployed at various sensitive areas from Udhampur to Pathankot for guarding the railway track and the bridges. Each coach carries security guards who keep a watch on the movement of passengers.
