Protesters block Jammu-Rajouri highway against stabbing case
6/27/2009 11:20:52 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu June 27
About 200 people today blocked the Jammu-Rajouri highway for nearly six hours at Noushera, about 119 km from here, demanding the arrest of five persons allegedly involved in attacking a youth.
Reports from the area said that the protesters were demanding that the five accused who stabbed Ranjit Singh on Friday while he was mining sand and stones from the Munawar Tawi in the area, be arrested and brought to book.
The protestors lifted the blockade only when the police contingent led by Additional Superintendent R K Bhat assured them that a case has already been registered against the accused and one of them identified as Balwinder Singh has been arrested.
It is to mention that some persons stabbed one youth critically who was being treated at the Government Medical College Hospital.
