| Summer heat takes toll on veg prices | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 28: Sweltering heat wave conditions in the absence of pre monsoon showers is proving disastrous from majority of farmers across Jammu region. Short supply of water and inadequate power supply to rural areas is not only hampering current sowing season but also giving sleepless nights to those farmers. The crisis situation witnessed by farming community is also having an immediate impact on the availability of fresh vegetables in the vegetable market at Narwal. Due to short supply the prices of fresh vegetables are skyrocketing and it is becoming difficult for a common household to enjoy the taste of fresh vegetables at low cost. A survey revealed that all those fresh vegetables which were available in the market for a price range of Rs 10-20 kg are now available at exorbitant rate of Rs 25-40. Prices of items of daily use such as tomato, capsicum, fresh beans, Loki, Patta Gobi, Lady Finger, are all skyrocketing. Add to this majority of cheese parlors have stopped producing cheese due to dispute over affordable price. Majority of housewives are also running short of options to cook delicious meals in the absence of choice
