| Centre must came clear on Kashmir: Chaman | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 28- Senior BJP leader Prof Chaman Lal Gupta has charged the ruling leaders at the Centre of indulging in contradictory and confusing voices even on sensitive issues including presence of troops in the troubled Kashmir Valley. “Such voices were encouraging secessionists and semi-secessionists who are bent upon to malign the forces engaged in fighting cross border terror and proxy war launched by the hostile neighbor’, he said. Pointing out that how a messy situation is being created, Prof. Gupta said that the Vice-President, Mohamed Hamid Ansari disclosed that the Prime Minister has agreed to revoke the Special Powers of the troops and the Disturbed Areas Act in Kashmir. But Union Home Minister, P Chidmbaram after reviewing situation in Kashmir stated that the matter would be reconsidered at the end of summer whereas the Defence Minister A K Antony has observed that though the infiltration has come down but still the threat from across the border is “real” and in the prevailing situation there is no question of lowering the guards. ‘All these voices are encouraging the elements out to disturb the situation in the Valley and create conditions for foreign inference’, he said and alleged that the basic problem in Jammu and Kashmir had been the leadership of the Congress who had never a Kashmir policy. Regarding the mounting cries for withdrawal of troops and revoking of the Special Powers of the forces, Prof. Gupta said that the leaders of the National Conference and those of the PDP are in a rat race to get implemented the agenda of the secessionists and agents of certain elements hostile to India but it was strange that the leadership of the Congress had little courage to tell them that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and the forces have had to tackle the menace of terrorism and insurgency. It was unfortunate that the deployment of forces and their rights is being made an issue of public debate in Kashmir; he said and pointed out that situation like that of 1989 is being created in the state.
