Sher-e-Kashmir XI wins Rajouri district tourney

RAJOURI, June 28: Sailing on superb performance from trio of Shahid Khan, Zaffar Wani and Shafiq Dar, Sher-e-Kashmir (SK) XI today clinched the Rajouri District Cricket Tournament beating Nowshera-A in the final played today at Sports Stadium, here.

While Shahid and Zaffar helped the team set a challenging total, Shafiq later stopped the opponent from reaching the required target taking away three important wickets.

Earlier, batting first, after winning the toss, SK XI set a big target of 246 runs losing seven wickets in 40 overs, which, in reply, Nowshera-A could not chase and bowled out for 188 runs in 36 overs.

Shahid Khan was top scorer with 63 runs including nine boundaries while Zaffar contributed 62 with the help of six hits to the fence. Yawar Mir added valuable 40 runs to the team’s total. From Nowshera-A, Mukesh Kumar clinched two wickets while Mozzam Khan and Jasbir Singh shared apiece each.

Batting second, Nowshera-A could not maintain the required run rate and later, in an attempt to accelerate the score, lost quick wickets. Whole side bowled out for 188 runs in 36 overs.

Baljit Singh scored maximum 55 runs including six boundaries. Amit Dutta and Mukesh Kumar contributed 30 and 27 runs respectively. Shafiq Dar was most successful bowler from SK XI with three for 38 in seven overs. Faizan Dar and Sameer Mir took one wicket each.

For his superb knock of 63, Shahid Khan was declared man of the match. Vijay Kumar and Mohinder Pal Singh were umpires in today’s match while Mehmood Chowdhary and Anwar Chowdhary were scorers.

Mehmood Ul-Haq emerged as best bowler of the tournament while best batsman trophy went to Baljit Singh. Amit Dutta of Nowshera-A was declared man of the series.

Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), Mohd Aslam Goni was chief guest in the final and prize distribution function. He gave away winners and runners-up trophies besides other individual prizes.
