6/28/2009 11:40:13 PM

Chaman Kaul
Patnitop, June 28: Desperate with the attitude of tourism department and Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation, Gujjars at Patnitop demolished water circulation system by cutting main pipers taking water to the huts meant for the residential purpose of the tourist coming from across the country. Even after three days of incident the concerned authorities of the departments are unable to restore the water supply to the huts and are running the show with water tankers. But the tankers are becoming tough with every passing day and are demanding increased rates to take the advantage of cluelessness of the department.
Tourists have to go from pillar to post to arrange a bucket of water. On the one hand department is availing on line booking for the huge flux of tourists and on the other hand basic amenities are not kept available in Jammu region. Sources revealed that officers of the department have asked Gujjars to leave the place as beauty of the spot is being affected with their presence. On this Gujjars manage tocreate hurdle by cutting the main water supplying pipe. Acute shortage of water supply not only is the cause of tourists coming from across the country but the people of Jammu are turning tense and furious as Patnitop is the only place where people of Jammu uses to visit frequently of week end holidays along with their families.
Commissioner Secretary Tourism when appraised about the situation said that she did not have abundant knowledge about the incident still instruction to the concerned officer to look into matter and report immediately has been given. She said water shortage due heat wave is also the one of the factors. Minister for Tourism and Culture and Director Tourism Jammu could not be contacted despite several efforts to share information regarding the issue.
“On one hand side in the Valley situation is not conducive for tourists because of turmoil of unprecedented protests and on the other hand side there are not basic facilities available in Jammu region, one fails to understand that if department is availing on line booking facilities to the tourists then why it fails to give protocol, privilege and facilities to them. Pilgrims also feel unease as there are not adequate facilities for them”, said Hari Krishen Sharma a citizen.
