| CM releases Rs 60000 to quake affected | | Says police recruitment drive to start soon for youth of Karnah | | SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 26 – Amidst thunderous applause by thousands who received Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad with warm welcome and enthusiasm at Tangdar and Teetwal, Chief Minister announced that entire 2nd installment of Rs. 60000 would be released to quake affected in one go. Highlighting the courage of people of Tangdar, Uri and other quake effected areas for braving the brunt of devastating natural calamity and rebuilding the villages with government assistance, he said government efforts have yielded encouraging results with active public cooperation. Addressing a largely public gathering at Tangdar today Chief Minister expressed satisfaction saying that a modern Tangdar is coming up on the ruins created by 8th October, killing earth quack. “One feels satisfied to see the efforts of government have born the fruit with the strong will of people to overcome devastation created by quake”, he said. Mr. Azad said that it is for the first time in the calamity history in the country that Jammu and Kashmir quake affected families received financial assistance ranging from Rs. 1.35 lakh to Rs. 2.00 lakh per fully damaged house as against Rs. 10,000 to 40,000 granted in favour of affected of earth quake, tsunamis and other natural calamities in Gujarat, Latur, Tamilnadu and elsewhere in the country. He announced that contrary to the suggestions made for the release of balanced amount of Rs. 60000 to the affected families in two installments, he has directed that entire amount of Rs. 60000 be released in favour of 26,188 households in one go so that construction of permanent residential structures is completed before 31st of December, 2006. Chief Minister lauded the civil administration, army and central government for putting in stupendous efforts to rehabilitate the quake survivors. He said the central liberal assistance made it possible for the state to get temporary shelter sheds, community halls, etc. constructed in the affected areas well before the onset of winter. He said visits of President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, UPA Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Defence Minister Pranab Mukharji and other central leadership to the quake hit areas revived the courage and gave heart to the sufferers besides proving important catalyst for speedy rehabilitation of the affected. Mr. Azad said that it is for the endeavours timely made by administration to shift the quake survivors to the shelter sheds that no death occurred on account of cold bites and severity of winter anywhere in the quake affected areas, adding that proper medicare facilities provided, also ensured no epidemic of, water borne diseases, etc in these areas. He said this achievement has received global appreciation and the international leaders have lauded the state and central governments for this success. He said similar views have been expressed by the Parliament members of 25 European countries at Brussels during his visit their recently, appreciating state and centre government for saving the earth quake aftermath threat of deaths and diseases Chief Minister inspected the Mini Secretariat complex being constructed at Tangdar and also inspected various infrastructure development works. |
