6/29/2009 10:42:06 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, June 29- Serving fifteen days ultimatum to government for initiating CBI probe into multi- crore temple scandals in Kashmir Valley, the All Parties Migrants Coordination Committee (APMCC) has threatened to launch hunger strike if its demand was not met.
Addressing a crowded press conference here today the APMCC Chairman Vinod Pandit said that the government was turning a deaf ear to their repeated pleas while land mafia along with some unscrupulous elements of various temple managements have indulged in massive encroachments and illegal selling of temple property in Kashmir Valley.
‘The property of Kashmiri temples was worth more than Rs. 500 crores’, he said and demanded a CBI probe into the whole scandal covering all the temples of the Valley from Vitasta to Aman Sethu in Uri.
Challenging the government position on the temple controversy, Vinod said that ‘if the Omar led government still continues to sit silent over the very sensitive issue of Hindus he would launch a hunger strike and his activists would initiate massive demonstrations in various parts of the state and country to make their voice heard by the people world over’.
Demanding immediate arrest of the land mafia and also those black sheep who have encroached upon the temple properties, Vinod said that “Kashmiri Hindu’s won’t let the land mafia snatch away their religious places and its property worth over Rs 500 crores in Valley”.
He said APMCC would also dispatch letters to Prime Minister, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, state Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister in this regard demanding a full-fledged CBI probe into the whole scandal.
While supporting the APMCC demand for a probe into the temple encroachments, Pritam Sharma, General Secretary Kranti Dal, said that ‘it was the concern of all Hindus and KPs were not alone in this fight’. He also appreciated APMCC’s gesture of extending full support to Kranti Dal in bringing uniformity in temple management in Jammu.
HL Chatta, General Secretary ASKPC gave details of the temple property encroached upon by the unscrupulous elements in the valley.
