| House Panel asks for improving functioning of TDC | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, JUNE 29 – Committee on public undertakings (PUC) of Legislative Assembly, met here today under the chairmanship of Mr. A. R. Veeri. The meeting, with among others attended by legislators Mr. R.S. Chib, Mr. M. Y. Taing, Mr. Zahoor Ahmad Mir, Mr. Jugal Kishore, Mr. G.H. Saroori, Mr. Nazir Aslam Wani, Mr. Saif Ullah Mir, Mr. Yashpal Kundal, Mr. Waqar Rasool and Mr. Feroz Ahmad Khan, besides Secretary Tourism, Mrs. Tanveer Jan, Managing Director JKTDC, Mr. Qadri, Accountant General Kashmir, Director Finance, Joint Director Information (HQ), Deputy Secretary Legislative Assembly were also present in the meeting. Reviewing the functioning of the JKTDC, the meeting held threadbare discussion on audit para No.7.2.7, which was finally dropped after satisfactory reply from the department. During the meeting, the Secretary Tourism highlighted the functioning of the corporation and its role in facilitating the tourists. She informed the Committee that for promoting the tourism sector as many as 15 new Tourist Development Authorities have been established for integrated development of tourist destinations of the state. She said more and more tourist destination are being identified for their planned harnessing. Addressing the meeting, Mr. Veeri asked the authorities to promote winter tourism in the state while calling for more measures to bring improvement in the working of TDC. He also suggested for increasing of accommodation capacity for tourists in the state. The Committee stressed on recovering of liabilities pending with some government departments and asked for a detailed list of departments. The committee also fixed July 7 for inspecting ongoing work at Pahalgam club.
