| 28 WSS coming up in Budgam | | Hakeem directs for uninterrupted water, power during Ramadan | |
Srinagar, September 26 - A prestigious programme for providing potable drinking water to people in Budgam District has been launched. For the purpose, work on 28 water supply schemes is a pace at a cost of Rs. 55 crore. So far Rs. 29 crore have been utilized on implementation of these schemes which on completion would provide drinking water to 1.70 lakhs souls of the district. This was stated by Minister for Transport Hakeem Mohammed Yaseen while chairing a high level officers meeting of the District Administration, Budgam here today. The meeting reviewed in depth the functioning of Public Health Engineering, Rural Development, Roads & Buildings and Irrigation Departments. The Minister on the occasion directed the concerned officers to ensure safe drinking water and uninterrupted power supply to the people of the district during the holy month of Ramadan. Giving details of the development scenario in the district, Hakeem Yaseen said that under centrally sponsored SGRY, a comprehensive programme has been started aiming at to provide job opportunities to the youth. He said under the programme, 1105 rural works at a cost of Rs. 4.20 crore have been taken in hand in the district which include construction of school buildings, link roads, lanes, drains, culverts, retaining walls, minor irrigation khuls, and rural sanitation works. He said government has already accorded sanction for developing 8 villages of the district as model villages where under Rs. 1.20 crore would be incurred in each village to provide basic facilities on modern lines to the people. The Minister said that 988 families living below the poverty line including 579 families belonging to ST/ SC community would be provided financial assistance of Rs. 2.59 crore during this fiscal year for construction of low cost residential houses. He said Rs. 20 crore plan has been approved to develop Dooth Pathri as a tourist destination in the district while Rs. 50 lakh stand released for implementation of the basic work. Hakeem Yaseen stressed upon the concerned officers to speed up work on various schemes presently under execution in the district for timely completion. He said the coalition government is committed to provide succor to the people of the state adding that several steps have so far been taken in this direction. |
