| SLC fears attack on visiting Pakistan team | | | Agencies Colombo, Jun 30 The Pakistan team was given an unprecedented security cover as hundreds of armed men guarded the visitors here on their arrival, with the Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) officials fearing an attack on the newly-crowned Twenty20 champions. In the first outing of the Pakistan team, hundreds of armed guards virtually cordoned off any unauthorised entry into the venue at Havelock Park where an unofficial three-day match began yesterday and at the launch of the Test and ODI series. ''This is the first international series in Sri Lanka that embraces a new era of peace,'' said the chairperson of Mobitel Leisha de Silva Chandrasena. But according to the organisers, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), the matches will be anything but peaceful. Sri Lanka Cricket has even doubled its defence budget running into millions of rupees. They added to the confusion by refusing to identify who or what shadowy moment was lurking to attack a cricket team which has never happened in the past even when the Tiger movement was functioning.
