| Scrapping AFSPA: PDP protests in Rajouri | | | Early Times Report Rajouri, June 30: Demanding revocation of the Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) and action against the culprits involved in raping and killing two females at Shopian, activists of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under the leadership of Choudhary Zulfikar Ali, MLA Darhal, today held massive demonstration at Rajouri. PDP activists also submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner demanding that the culprits of Shopian incident must be brought to book. Addressing the gathering Zulfikar Ali said that coalition regime has failed to protect dignity and honour of the common masses. He especially mentioned that during the last six months incidents of custodial killings, police firing, rapes and violation of human rights have increased manifold. He regretted that instead of protecting lives of the innocent citizens, Congress-NC coalition regime was more concerned about enjoying power. PDP leader rued that killing of innocent people at the hands of uncontrolled security forces has been going on unabated during the last six months. He said that government appeared to be incompetent to control these killings. He said that coalition regime has failed to fulfill the promises which were made with the people during the assembly elections. He regretted that instead of fulfilling the promises, this regime has further compounded woes of the masses by propagating anti-people policies. Pointing towards problems being faced by the inhabitants of Rajouri districts, he said that there was acute shortage of ration in most parts of the district and added that in the far-flung areas people have been facing starvation due to non availability of ration on the government runs depots. “We have repeatedly brought this matter to the notice of the concerned authorities but nothing concrete has been done so far”, he regretted and added that government was non serious in solving the day today problems of the common masses. Choudhary Mir Hussain, Choudhary Mir Qasim, Alam Din and Masood Khan also addressed the gathering.
