| 10 more days for Jan panel | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 30: The term of Justice (Retd) Muzaffar Jan Commission, probing the killing and rape of two women at Shopian in south Kashmir last month, was today extended by ten more days. Justice Jan was appointed on June 1, after a massive protest across the Kashmir valley, by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to probe the incident and file the report within one month. An official spokesman said here this evening that on the request of Justice Jan, the Government agreed to extend the term of submission of final inquiry report for further 10 days till July 10. Accordingly, the State Government today issued a notification extending the term of the Commission of Inquiry till July 10 on the valid reasons communicated by Justice Jan. Meanwhile, people in Shopian town continue to strike in protest against the incident. They were agitating from May 30. Today entire Kashmir valley also observed complete shut down in protest against the Shopian incident and killing of two youths in security force firing yesterday at Baramulla. The separatists, besides, main opposition party in the state People's Democratic Party (PDP) have already rejected the inquiry alleging that it was ordered to shield the culprits. However, on the recommendation of the Commission in its interim report, the Government suspended four police officials and two doctors in connection with the incident. A lady doctor, meanwhile, alleged that she was victimised by the government as she had confirmed that both the women were fiosty raped and later murdered.
