MUNISH GUPTA Jammu, June 30: It was a huge and competitive figure of 77.13 per cent as various city Colleges today declared their first cut-off list of candidates selected for admission to different streams in BA/B.Sc/B.Com Part-I for the session2009-10. Computer, Physics and Mathematics seemed to be favourite combinations as it witnessed a synchronized cut off at GGM Science College while Computer Application with other permutable combinations at GCW Gandhi Nagar with 77.13 percent cut off, officials said. Students who have made it to the first list were lining up outside various colleges to complete the admission formalities. Excited students were seen busy in clearing the formalities in college premises while some faces were a bit in low spirits as they failed to make it in first list and now looking for the release of second cut off list. Shivani Sharma, an aspirant who had come to GCW Parade College with his friends, said, “The cut-offs touched a bit high this year, but it was expecting my number. Though I failed to make it in the first list, but expect better luck with the second one and to get my number for pursuing B Com.’ Similar rush was seen besides the notice board at the GGM Science College, students were seen discussing the cut-off marks and their prospects. Sunil Singh, an applicant, said, “The first cut-off list really is higher than I had expected.” Sunil’s friend Rohit who also joined in pointed out, “The first cut-off marks are very high, but we were expecting this due to the higher percentage in pass marks in the +2 results. May the cut-off come down in following days in the second and the third list, he hopefully said and added “I wouldn’t compromise on any course except my preference”. Meanwhile the highest merit was registered in two city colleges Computer, Physics and Mathematics combination at GGM Science College and computer Application with other permutable combinations at GCW Gandhi Nagar with 77.13 percent cut off. Other streams, in which the cut off merit for admission touched over 60 percent mark included Medical, Non medical subject at GCW Parade, Functional English with others at GCW Gandhi Nagar, Biotechnology and Functional English at GGM Science College. At SPMR College of Commerce, merit went upto 91 percent with 53.6percent cut off. At MAM College, cut off was in the combination of Chemistry, Geology, Maths was 47.87 percent while in the Arts and Non-Medical subjects, cut off was 43.60 and 45.20 percent, respectively. Combination of Physics, Stats, Maths, Physics, Math Geography, Physics, Maths, Computers, Electronic, Math, Computers was 46.67, 48.40, 57.87and 59.13 percent respectively. At GGM Science College, cut off in the Medical and non medical stream registered 58.66 and 54.6 percent respectively. While in Biotechnology and Functional English the cut off recorded 69.6 percent in each. Cut off in the combinations of Physics, computers, Maths; Physics, Electronics, Maths was 77.13and 71percent respectively. Cut off in all subjects at GCW Parade was higher than 50 percent while the highest merit was registered in both Commerce and Arts stream with 93 percent. In Arts, the cut off was 54.8 percent while for Medical and Non-Medical subjects, cut off was 64 and 61.1 percent respectively. In Commerce this time only one list was issued as all the seats were filled in the stream the cut off went to 66.6 percent. At GCW Gandhi Nagar, cut off in Medical and Nonmedical was 45.30 and 55.26 percent while the subjects such as, Arts, Statistics, Home Science and Geography registered 49.5, 50.3, 53.2, 46 and 51.8 percent, cut off respectively. The aspirants who have been got selected in the first cut of list had got admissions by the college authorities by submitting their college fees as the college authorities don’t want to delay the admission process so that the classes will be started on the completion of college holidays going to be ended on July 15.
