Third day of Navratra festival Katra
All India Devotional Song contest gains momentum

UDHAMPUR, SEPTEMBER 26 - With the participation of artists in large number and spectators in thousands from within and outside the state, the All India Devotional Song competition being held at Yog Ashram complex (Air strip), Katra is gaining momentum day by day. The contest is being organized jointly by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVD) and Department of Tourism, J&K Government.
On the third day of the All India Devotional Song competition held last evening, 15 singers participated in the contest. Ranjan Gill of Ludhiana was adjudged as best singer while as Paramjeet of Jammu and Miss Julikha Fareed of Bhaderwah were jointly declared second. The third prize went in favour of Vijay Kumar of Jangalgali near Katra.
Rakesh Wazir of Katra who is also the Chairman of All India Bhaint Competition Committee, compared the proceedings of third day of Bhaint competition brilliantly.
The Additional Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVD), Mr Puneet Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion while Rajesh Sikri, Sub Judge, Katra was the guest of honour. The chief guest gave away the prizes to the winners.
Among others, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, SMVD, R.B Suri, President Hotel and Restaurant Association, Sham Lal Kesar, President, J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Joint Director, State Board of School Education, M.P. Kailu, members of celebration committee, Sardari Lal Dubey, Harish Dubey, Kewal Padha, Rajinder Kotwal and R.S. Manhas were also present on the occasion.
A heavy rush was also witnessed in the premises of Government Higher Secondary School, Katra where talented artists of Song and Drama Division, GOI enthralled the audience with their superb and heart throbbing folk performances. The spectators present on the occasion could not resist them in giving repeated cheers.
As a part of Navratra festival, Shri Bhagwat Katha is also going on in the premises of Shri Raghu Nath temple, Katra where large number of devotees are converging to listen to the holy verses of Katha recited by Shri Devki Nandan Ji.
A painting competition was also held in the premises of GHSS Katra in which Government High School, Panthel got first prize while as second and third prizes went in favour of Trikuta Public HSS, Katra and Pine Land Public High School respectively. As many as 16 educational institutions participated in the contest.
Earlier, a colourful procession comprising of number of Jhankies started from Asia Chowk Katra where Additional CEO, SMVD, Katra lit the sacred joyti and accompanied the procession. The procession after passing through the bazaars of the town culminated at Yog Ashram, Katra.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Reasi, A.K. Sahu, Additional SP, M.L.Mehra, SDPO, Anil Magotra, Naib Tehsildar Katra Mr Sanjay Badyal,President Travel Association, Katra, Surinder Khajuria, Raja Bharti, Anil Dubey and Sham Pujari also joined the procession.
