| Don’t delay AFSPA repeal: PDP | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, 5 JULY: Peoples Democratic Party today said any delay in revocation of AFSPA and withdrawal of troops from civilian areas can only increase the people’s alienation. Addressing a day long convention of PDP youth activists of Kashmir region here at party headquarters Youth wing President Bashir Assad said the recent upheaval in response to the grave incident of human rights should serve as an eye opener to the people at the helm of affairs who can’t escape the responsibility of responding to the people’s urge of repealing the draconian laws and withdrawal of troops from the civilian areas for bringing in peace in the region. Bashir Assad lambasted the Omar Abdullah government for his non seriousness in respecting the honour and dignity of common citizens. This unfortunate attitude even among the state police is the outcome of the free hand given to them for a reason that existed no more on the ground. Basir Assad said that in absence of militant activities there was no reason to keep the number of troops in tact which were deployed to deal with the anti insurgency situations. Expressing his anguish for booking the peaceful protesting youth under PSA and other draconian laws, Bashir Assad said that the right to agitate is being butchered while as elsewhere in the country agitators are being treated in a civilized manner.
