| Moderate intensity quake jolts valley | | | Early Times Report Srinagar: An Earthquake of moderate intensity measuring 5.2 on Richter scale jolted Kashmir valley this afternoon, official sources told .. While the jolt, triggering panic among the denizens, there were no reports of any damage or casualty, the officials added.Sources said that the quake, epicentred in the Hindukush mountain range of Afghanistan, was felt at 1516 IST this afternoon in entire Kashmir valley. The temblor was epicentred at 36.5 degree north latitude and 71.2-degree east longitude, an official in the meteorological department stationed here told Press Bureau of India. The tremor created panic among the residents with some of them rushing outside their homes for safety. Reports said that the panic-stricken residents anxiously telephoned relatives and friends to inquire about their safety. The quake reminded people of bitter memories of a devastating quake of 8 October 2005 that was recorded at 7.6 on the Richter scale and left trail of destruction apart from claiming lives of hundreds of people in both sides of the Kashmir region.
