| Tributes paid to Ashraf Sahil | | | Early Times Report Srinagar 06, July 2009 Glowing tributes were paid to renowned Broadcaster, Poet and Columnist late Mohammad Ashraf Sahil on his first death anniversary. A galaxy of writers, intellectuals expressed their heart felt mark of respect to him in a programme specially organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages here at Lal Mandi, Complex, this afternoon. The programme was presided over by former Vice chancellor of Kashmir University and renowned critic, Prof. Hamidi Kashmiri while eminent columnist Sh. G. M. Zahid, Zaffar Iqbal Khan Manhas, Secretary Academy , Dr. M Iqbal son of late Sahil were also present in the presidium. Welcoming the guests, Mr. Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, stated that Late Sahil was a great soul added that he had rendered his whole life for promotion of regional cultural heritage of Kashmir. He said that his contributions for reviving of Kashmiri culture on Doordarshan and Radio Kashmir, Srinagar will be remembered all times to come. He said that the real tribute to the departed soul is to propagate his mission with full vigor and zeal. Prof. Hamidi Kashmiri in his presidential address described him a genuine poet of new sensibility added that Sahil’s poetic thoughts were based on post modern trends . He said being a columnist he had contributed a number of valuable writing to society depicting the ethos of Kashmiri culture and tradition. He also said that Mr. Sahil had been a real sympathizer of all the regional, ethno-linguistic and cultural identities of the state. He said that he was an intellectual of high repute and was very energetic, helpful and caring. He also recited his few verses on the occasion.
