| Soz lodges protest with Mamta for delay in Kashmir rail project | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 7: PCC(I) Chief and former Union Minister Prof Saif–ud-Din Soz has lodged protest with Ms. Mamta Banerjee, Minister of Railways for the delay in completion of the Katra and Banihal and then from Banihal to Qazigund Ralway Projects in the state. In a statement issued today from New Delhi, the PCC(I) chief Prof Soz stated that he further has told her that some experts feel that new alignment will mean a delay in completion of the track between Katra and Qazigund by 10 years and this was what she also mentioned in her budget speech on the other day. Irked over the unprecedented delay in completion of this project, Prof Soz had asked her to order a probe into the question why the earlier alignment from Katra onwards went wrong causing loss of precious time and a net loss to the Railways amounting to approximately Rs 300 Crores and urged the union railway minister to give orders for extending the railway line from Baramulla to Kupwara while she would be looking into realignment between Katra and Banihal. He also suggested the railway minister has a right to know about the delay and she can go in to the question as to why the earlier alignments went wrong, why did the railways take so long to come to the conclusion that realignment of track was necessary; fixation of responsibility about the loss of time and the cost of the earlier alignments have to be quantified and the nation and people of Jammu and Kashmir to be told plainly when the track between Katra and Qazigund will be completed. Prof Soz also stated that he had also given notice to the Rajya Sabha to put this issue on its agenda for a through discussion.
