| Govt reaching at peoples’ doorsteps: Slathia | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, JULY 08: Minister for Industries and Commerce, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Labour and Employment, Surjit Singh Slathia said that government is committed to provide good governance at the doorsteps of people by reaching out to them through continuous interactions and public Darbars. “The purpose behind running summer secretariat in Jammu is that people of the region do not face any problems regarding water, electricity and essential supplies especially, in the summer months due to shifting of Darbar to Srinagar”, he said and added that people who cannot plead their grievances before the government when the Darbar shifts to Srinagar can now easily approach the summer secretariat with their genuine problems. Minister was interacting with different deputations who called on him at summer secretariat, here on Wednesday. Slathia said that different ministers are attending the secretariat on rotation basis so that the people facing problems concerning different departments can flag them to the concerned ministers and get them addressed without having to go to Srinagar, adding that this also keeps a constant check on the functioning of different departments in the Jammu region. “No laxity is being allowed in the government machinery at Jammu through constant monitoring and department review by the Chief Minister and different cabinet ministers”, he stressed. Different deputations from Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Billawer, Rajouri and other far-flung areas of Jammu division met the minister and apprised him of their problems concerning basic facilities, food grain supplies, drinking water, electricity and employment. The minister gave a patient hearing to the deputations’ and assured that all their genuine grievances will be addressed at the earliest. Interacting with youth who had approached him on the issue of increasing their employability in private industries in the State, Slathia said that the government truly believes that educated youth should venture into private jobs as the government sector is already overburdened and cannot accommodate all the educated unemployed. He said that government is working to enhance the employability of youth of the state in private sector which has greater scope as well as is the need of the hour. Representatives of J&K Rural Development Society also met the Minister and apprised him of the problems of rural areas regarding availability of fertilizers, seeds etc. The Minister assured that every effort is being made to ensure equitable development of the State by focusing on far-flung and rural pockets.
