On the other hand senior authorities of the different degree colleges are grappling with piquant situation arising out of acute shortage of vacant seats. As most of these admission seekers are from far flung areas where there are already degree colleges being opened by the Government but inspite of taking admission in these colleges they have been opted for city colleges which have not much of the capacity to get all the aspirants admitted in the colleges. While talking to some of the admission seekers, they said that the colleges in there area have not proper infrastructure and the staff. So they have applied for the admissions in the city colleges. Principal Women College Gandhi Nagar college Nalini Kohli on Wednesday said that in the absence of vacant seats the college authorities are not in a position to absorb all the students desirous of seeking admission in city degree colleges. She claimed that the state government had opened large number of degree colleges outside Jammu and students Coming from far flung areas should first seek admission in these colleges before applying for seats in Jammu. It needs to be mention that yesterday she have assured that all the students who have filled up the pre admission forms at GCW Gandhi Nagar can be accommodated in the college because the total number of pre admission forms submitted are less than 2100 whereas the total in take capacity of the college is more than 2100 students. Thus, all students who have already submitted the pre-admission forms can seek admission in the college provided they are ready to seek admission in the streams where the seats are still vacant such as Arts and Home Sciences. Similarly the Savitri Sharma, Principal GCW, Parade told students to seek admission in arts and sciences where the seats are still vacant but the issue of increasing the seats in Commerce stream still remained unresolved as there are 700 pre-admission applications against the 400 seats in Commerce stream. Principal had assured the students that the total number of seats in commerce stream will be increased but the final decision on the issue will be taken after a meeting with the Commissioner Secretary tomorrow.
