| 17 qtls Bhuki seized at Toll Post Lakhanpur | | |

LAKHANPUR, JULY 9: Alert staff of Toll post Lakhanpur foiled a bid to smuggle a large quantity of Poppy straw (Bhuki) when a vehicle bearing registration No. JK01E-2790 was put to physical check on the wee hours of Thursday. Driver of the vehicle declared goods as popular veneer core, however, on physical verification 37 bags of poppy straw were found concealed beneath PV core weighing about 17 qtls. Driver of the vehicle namely, Farid Ahmed son of Hatim Mir of Nagam, Budgam and conductor namely, Imtiaz Ahmed Dar son of Ali Mohd. Dar of Krawa, Banihal were detained and the case, seized Bhuki were later handed over to the Inspector Excise, Excise Sub-range Kathua for initiating action under law. The entire process was personally monitored by Dy. Excise commissioner, Toll post Lakhanpur, B.A Saraf, who have warned the smugglers/tax evaders to desist from such kind of illegal activities and appreciated the efforts of the staff.
