Students, scholars oppose linking retirement age of teachers

Students Scholars Joint Coordination Committee today held a protest demonstration against the demand of increasing retirement age and alleged that it would be cruel joke with the students if retirement age of university teachers was enhanced to 65.
Large number of scholars of Jammu University today assembled at Fountain Plaza where from they staged a protest rally, blocked the main road and closed the University Gate for sometimes.
They were strongly opposed the demanded enhancement of retirement age of varsity teachers by five years. They said the scholars will not tolerate any such demand which would harm the entire student community.
Meanwhile, in a press conference Panthers students Union condemned the University authorities over the issue regarding to the age enhancement of the University Teachers and employees.
PSU president Mohinder Pal Singh Pandu said that such types of age Enhancement to the University teacher will promote the sense of insecurity, stress, restlessness among the educate youth of the state who are in the queue to avail the opportunities of lecturer in the different universities of the state.
He said that a high level meeting is scheduled to be held in the Summer Capital of state in which chancellor Pro Chancellor Vice Chancellor of all the Universities of the state are likely to attend the same. He urged to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for not playing any heed to the Draconian issue of the Universities faculty which will directly harm to the young educated youth of the state.
The scholars, however, strongly the Government for shifting office of the Central University granted for Jammu to Srinagar.
They urged to the CM setting up the central university in the Jammu region which going to be shifted to somewhere in Kashmir Valley. They warned for dire consequences if Central University shifted to Kashmir Valley.
Meanwhile Vikas Sharma,President, National Secular Forum today demanded that the enhancement should not be made in the retirement age of University professor, as it is not a wise move at this juncture and it will create imbalance in the entire University System.
If anyhow, the age in enhanced then we strongly demand that the same should be done to all other employees of the university as they are also playing vital role in the system of University. Further, the scholars should also be treated at par, that is, on the pattern of Central University, and scholarship amount shall be enhanced upto Rs 10,000 and Rs 8000 for PhD and M Phil every scholars respectively.
NSF warns the State Government not to take decision on the enhancement in the retirement age of University teachers in haste and must take into confidence all the stakeholders. If the same would not be done, the NSF will not allow the functioning of Jammu University.
