| Slathia inaugurates works in Vijaypur | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, JULY 09 -The Minister for Industries and Commerce and Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Mr. S. S. Slathia today inaugurated 6.75 meter long Gagore road in Vijaypur block completed at the cost of Rs. 4 lakh under BADP by Rural Development Department here today. The road would benefit about 10,000 inhabitants of the area. Addressing the public meeting on the occasion, the Minister said that government is slush with funds for development works and is focusing on infrastructure development of far-flung and remote areas of the State. He asked the officers to utilize the funds judiciously as it is not anybody’s money but public’s hard earned money. Assistant Commissioner, Development, Samba, Mr. Ashok Kumar, BDO Vijaypur, Mr. Sonu Pargal, Sarpanches and Panches were also present on the occasion. The Minister also interacted with the people of the area who demanded regular supply of water in Gagore canal for irrigation purposes, especially in the peak kharief sowing season. They also called for carrying out desiliting of the Gagore canal, repair of water distributaries, upgradation of 100 KVA transformer to 250 KVA, distribution of IAY cheques to beneficiaries, installation of electric poles, regular power supply and repair of lanes and drains. Reacting to the public demand of fresh survey of BPL families in Samba district, Mr. Slathia informed that the government has constituted a committee comprising an officer of Social Welfare and Revenue departments, Block Development Officer, Numberdar and Sarpanch who will assess the BPL families in a particular village. The names of BPL families will be incorporated in the new list only after the recommendations of the village officers, Numberdar and Sarpanch, he added. Mr. Slathia expressed concern over the growing numbers of unemployed in the state, adding that the present government, in its six months tenure, have advertised several vacancies in the government departments. He asked the youth to fill the forms for the different government posts advertised by PSC and SSRB and work hard for getting a breakthrough in government sector, which requires the expertise of young talented youth. He, however said that the government sector can accommodate only a fraction of educated youth so they should not shy away from private jobs having endless possibilities. The Minister said that the government headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is striving to shrink the distance between public and the administration. “We believe that it is not public who should seek the government but the government is making all out efforts to reach out to the people of the state by addressing their grievances at their doorsteps,” he said. He informed people that for registering the complaints of people, he has decided to open an office at Gurha Morh, whose doors will be open for all those who need relief from their day-to-day problems like pension, drinking water, power etc. He asked people to come freely to register their grievances at the complaint office and assured them that all their genuine grievances will be addressed. Later, the Minister also inaugurated lanes and drains constructed at a cost of Rs. 4 lakh under District plan from Ramgarh main road to house of Madan Lal in Randhawa Colony, Purmandal Block, fulfilling the long pending demand of the people
