A special meeting of the legislators, senior leaders and functionaries of the party convened here today to discuss the situation and find a lasting solution as to safe guard life, property and dignity of the people and identity of the state. Party Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed chaired the meeting, while Party President Mehbooba Mufti, Muzaffar Hussain Baig, Molvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari and other senior leaders, legislators and prominent functionaries attended the meet. The meeting discussed the long term vision of Self Rule, of the party to bring the state out of its prolonged miseries and find a lasting solution to the problem that takes on board India, Pakistan and people of all regions of the state. Muzaffar Hussein Baig explained various elements of the Self Rule document which he said has gained acceptability at sub continental level as a viable and dignified option. As a prerequisite, he maintained it was necessary to first demilitarize civilian areas and roll back AFSPA in order to create an atmosphere of confidence and security among the people of state without whose approval any solution could sustain. Explaining the various components of self rule Baig said the vision document addresses all the dimensions of the Kashmir issue viz a viz all its facets including political , administrative ,economic and especially emotional taking into account the aspiration and sentiments of the people. Advocating that erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir as a free economic zone with no barriers and a joint apex council at the top to work with each other as to synergize the progress of the whole region and to use state’s joint natural resources be it water, minerals, tourism etc. for the economic development of the people and the state thus safe guard the future of the coming generations. Further explaining the internal dimension viz a viz Delhi, self rule advocates to roll back certain laws between centre and state which have infringed on the doctrine of self rule embedded in the instrument of accession and has thus impeded the progress of the state on political, administrative and economic fronts. To address the intra regional and sub regional issues it advocates sharing of benefits of empowerment from centre to state on regional and sub regional level so as to make people equal partners in the resolution of the Kashmir issue and share the benefits and fruits of devolution at the gross root level. Drawing a comparison with other options including autonomy, Baig said that Self Rule envisaged a comprehensive settlement and future socio economic co operation between the two sides of erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir which could ultimately facilitate a long term era of cooperation between India and Pakistan as well.
