7/9/2009 11:38:43 PM

Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 9
The SIT, which had been reconstituted with Farooq Ahmed IG CID as its superviser, to investigate into the rape and murder of two women in Shopian complains non cooperation from locals in Shopian
A senior functionary of the SIT today said that "no civilian appeared before the SIT tam to depose in the case."
He said that the Shopian Bar Association has demanded that the police officials suspended were the "main culprits" and they should be arrested. The lawyers have conveyed to the SIT that unless these police officials were arrested and case filed in the court no civilian will cooperate with the SIT in the investigation.
The SIT official said that if the stalemate continued "we may not be able to make any headway in the investigation." An Official said that we wanted to get some evidence about the involvement of the police officials in the rape and murder of two women and that was possible if people came forward and deposed before the investigating officers. He said that without any evidence and witness deposing against the police officials it was not possible to arrest the officials. He also mentioned that the police officials were suspended on charge of dereliction of duty.
Meanwhile sources in government said that there were some elements in South Kashmir who were trying to keep the Shopian incident live so that peace eluded the valley. The sources also said if the people, especially the members of the Bar were interested in resolving the mystery behind the rape and murder of two women they should cooperate with the SIT so that the guilty were punished.
