| Jairam makes Jammu polythene traders happy | | | Early Times Report Jammu ,July 9 The J&K Polythene manufacturers and traders association has welcomed the statement of Minister for Environment and forests Jai Ram Ramesh in the parliament that banning plastic bags is no solution other problem of degrading environment. In a press statement issues here today a spokesman of Ploythene Manufacturers and traders association Pawan Shahtri has said that the statement by Union Minister that the some state governments have imposed ban on plastic bags, because of the failure of the solid waste management by the local bodies. The association has also hailed the minister’s announcement that the government would pursue a policy of encouraging biodegradable plastic and his contention that problem was of plastic bags, but the use of recycled plastic and the material made using coloring mater, Shastri has further welcomed that the assertion by the minister that the entire world is using the plastic bags and that paper bags are no alternative to the plastic bags, since the paper a wood product and switching over to paper bags will lead to felling of trees in large numbers, denuding the forests, leading to environmental hazard and ecological imbalance. Shastri said that the state government has acted in haste in imposing blanket ban on the sales, storage transport and use of plastic bags without taking into consider their its negative impacts on the live hood of a large number of people as well as hardship being caused to the shopkeepers as well as the consumers.
