| Conference on role of cooperatives in rural development held | | |

Jammu, July 10: A day long conference on the “Role of Cooperative in Rural Development” was held at Sahkari Bhawan was presided over by Rajesh Khanna, chairman, J&K Cooperative union.
Provincial president J&K national conference Jammu province Rattan Lal Gupta and Mohinder Singh, chairman, Jammu central cooperative bank were the chief guest and guest of honour respectively. In the meeting various problems being faced by the farmers were discussed at length and effort was made to redress the genuine grievances of the farming community viz. Timely availability of fertilizer and farm credit to the farmers. In the meeting it was unanimously resolved that an advisory committee be constituted from amongst the leading cooperators/ farmers for the purpose of pre-budget discussions for projecting the cause of the farmers before the government.
Chairman, JCC Bank speaking on the occasion apprised the participants that Jammu Central Cooperative Bank is already extending its full support by providing all types of credit to the farming community and is already catering need of the rural areas of Jammu province. He further said he accepted the demand of the farming community in general for reduction of interest rate on short tern agriculture credit including Kissan credit card, which earlier was bearing interest about 11% has now been brought down to 9% and further apprised the participants that matter is being taken up with the NABARD.
