| Govt mulls reforms in education sector | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 11: The ruling coalition has finalised an ambitious programme to streamline and revolutionizing education sector in Jammu and Kashmir. After a Government survey revealed that teaching work in schools used to suffer because of paucity of teachers the Government has created 94 posts of principals,137 posts of headmasters,411 posts of masters and 3481 posts of lecturers. The survey had also revealed that in most of the primary schools teaching suffered because there used to be only one to two teachers. The Government has regularized 3,000 third teachers in primary schools ‘No doubt the Renbr-i-Taleem scheme had benefitted a large number of educated youths but most of these teachers showed hardly any interest in their work because they were agitating for regularization of services, sources said . In order to encourage teachers to take their work seriously the Government has regularised the services of 2100 ReT teachers. In addition to this 200 new primary schools were opened and 300 primary schools were upgraded to the middle standard. The Government directed the agencies to expedite construction of college buildings and so far buildings at Thanamandi, Budgam, Sopore, Bandipore and Dooru have been completed. ‘Instructions have been issued to expedite construction work on 18 college buildings so that st udents did not suffer, sources said. The Government has issued directions to the Public Service Commission and the subordinate services selection Board that teaching and administrative staff for the new 33 colleges, which were being opened in the state during the current year, Separate funds have been earmarked for developing the basic infrastructure in these new colleges.
