Future of 18000 ETT students in jeopardy

CHAMAN KAUL/ARUN TRISAL
JAMMU/KATHUA, JULY 9: Career and future of hundreds of students of Elemetry Teachers Training has fallen into acute jeopardy for quite flimsy reasons.
Elementary Teachers Training course of two years is required in many states for securing job of a government teacher but not in Jammu and Kashmir where many colleges imparting this ‘special training’ thrive. Chasing their job goals, hundreds and thousands of aspirants throng every year to the state to obtain the degree after qualifying the examinations conducted by Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education through normal session scheduled of which exams held in June-July and also through special session being held in November-December.
This year examinations of the near about 18000 students were on and four papers were examined but the education traders intervened with court order on 2nd July. The order insisted upon the authorities to accommodate the students of two institutes who approached the court pleading that the students of their institutes’ are being ignored. In reply to this board also filed appeal with the court but no hearing has been taken yet, highly placed sources informed.
Sources revealed that watching the whole scenario of Srinagr court Jammu court also have directed board to accommodate students of various dozen of institutes. At the time of admission all the institute owners file affidavits with the board to abide the orders of the government in toto for special session. But leaving all norms and terms and conditions set aside these institute owners trying to compel the board to accommodate those students admitted for special session of which examinations’ are scheduled in the month of November, informed sources.
Holding responsible to J & K State Board most of the students expressed grief over the faulty policies of the Board. Students expressed that J&K State Board of school Education Jammu postponed the E.T.T examination of 2007-09 session which was supposed to be conducted in 2008 by issuing a simple notification with the reason that due to unavoidable circumstances examination has been postponed after conducting examination for four papers on 7.7.09 morning when the fifth paper was due to be conducting at 10 am.
“These examinations were conducted after a gap of two and half years of which admissions were initiated in the year 2006. The aspirants who seek the admission in this E.T.T course are all out of the J&K state, as this course is not needed for government appointment in the J&K state while as it is a needed diploma for appointment in government services all over India” said one of the aggrieved students.
“For conducting exams of the students of these institutions’ infrastructure, supervisors, question papers, answer sheets and above all the eligibility criteria is to be checked for which ten to fifteen days time is needed” said Chairman JKSBOSE, Prof. Desh Bandhu and added that “Board has responsibility of these all students and we are working to formulate a policy to ensure that time of the students does not go waste”.
Whatever, be the case students from outside the state are the sufferers even after spending huge sums for boarding, lodging and other allied expenditures. Education traders should understand that even a single wrongful message could ruin their trade as well as hamper inflow of economy with the influx of these students who despite being, under turmoil state, dare to sit here to obtain diplomas and degrees.
