7/12/2009 11:36:43 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, July 12: Paying rich tributes to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in fighting the “autocratic rule on July 13, 1931, CPI (M) today asserted on the Central Government to respond to the political aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement issued here today, CPI (M) State Secretary Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami without defining the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, said that Union government must respond to the political aspirations of the people of state.
He said that “July 13” provides an opportunity for both the Central Government and the people of the State to go for self introspection vis-à-vis their role in resolving the vexed Kashmir issue. He said that the day signifies the commencement of an era which should be commemorated as the struggle of the people for restoring their special identity.
Tarigami said the struggle ultimately fructified and helped the suppressed people of the state to live with dignity, self respect and honour. He said that rich tributes must be paid to the martyrs who offered supreme sacrifices for they have created a new history for the people of the State. “The day laid the foundation for a new beginning and a cause to unify people rising above the narrow considerations for larger interests of the public,” he observed.
The CPI (M) State Secretary said that the day reminds the people that they will have to work together to maintain the unity and integrity of the state and not to allow the divisive forces to succeed in dividing it on regional or communal lines.
Reminding the political leaders of their role they must play particularly during the crisis period, Tarigami cautioned them, that they must shun the evasive politics particularly when the State is undergoing a crisis like situation. “All political parties and their respective leaders are under public scanner. They should come clean with their respective political ideologies and turn away from the overt and covert political tactics to satiate their vested interests,” he added.
