| Expansion sets volcanoes ablaze, Omar’s exit certain | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, JULY 12: With induction of hen-pecked ministers in his government youthful Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, has invited a disgraceful end of the six months old Cong-NC coalition, already sinking and stinking, non-functional government of Jammu and Kashmir. Two ex-but efficient Chief Secretaries may bolt the door from inside who were taken in the Council with an assurance to include them in the Cabinet.
There is alarming resentment among the senior Congress and National Conference leaders in the state, many of them have sent their resignation to the party leaders. A senior most Congress leaders and former Dy. Chief Minister offered to burn himself in front of Congress’s National Headquarters in New Delhi against the humiliation to his supporters in Jammu. Kashmir Congress leaders including sitting legislators have decided to form Kashmir Sonia Congress. Kashmiri Pundits who suspected a conspiracy by the National Conference to force their exodus in 1990 from the Valley have conveyed to the Congress leaders in Delhi that it were National Conference who intended to wipe off them from the Valley to accomplish Dixon Plan. Exclusion of KP minister was a party of that conspiracy of NC abetted by the local Congress leaders; the Pandits are openly saying that there is more fore work inside the National Conference rank and file. The favorites of Dr Farooq Abdullah and party’s superman, Nazir Sheikh, have been sidelined. Dogra Scion, Raj Kumar, Ajat Shatru Singh and Kichloo of Kishtiwar forcefully sponsored by NC president were thrown into the Chenab by the Chief Minister. Chaudhary Ramzan a loyalist to the core is out too.
Within 14 hours of expansion in the cabinet 51 MLAs have forged an alliance to get rid of the Omar-Soz-Azad henpecked government. 51 MLAs Group shall wait till the 27th July, 09 when the legislature meets in Srinagar, if it meets at all, where the strength shall be demonstrated. It may repeat the tragedy that marred the credibility of the parliamentary democracy in 1984 when the Wali Mohd Itoo, the Speaker was bundled out of the Chair and a new government was voted to power with the support of echelons of power in Delhi. “I and Abdul Ghani Lone were the victims of the police brutality” said Bhim Singh JKNPP Chairman and added that Delhi may not repeat itself this time with Dr Manmohan Singh as the Prime Minister to their own good.
He said that in case a consensus reaches for the next Chief Minister before July 27th, 09, N.N. Vohra shall have to go for a brief swearing in ceremony. Center has conveyed in straight terms that there will be no dissolution of the Assembly and it refuses to dictate from Delhi as happened in the past. There is visible and vertical split both in the Congress and National Conference and exit of Omar Abdullah, the third generation of Abdullah’s ruling dynasty shall meet its waterloo in a week’s time.
