Gupta opposes observing July 13 as Martyrs day
7/12/2009 11:37:41 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, JULY 12: Leader of the BJP Legislators Party Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta strongly objected to the observance of July 13, as Martyrs Day and having a State holiday. In a statement, Prof. Gupta said that the Day of July 13, 1931, is linked with quite sad happenings which were outcome of the conspiracy hatched by the imperialists who had created communal frenzy to have hurdles in the independence of India and then worked for communal division of Bharat with a design for having a theoretic State of Pakistan.
He recalled that it was the lone Maharaja Hari Singh who in 1930, at the Round Table Conference at London of the Indian Princes and Nawabs, had pleaded for the independence of India and stated that in his State of Jammu and Kashmir there was no communal problem as Muslims and Hindus live alike brothers. This assertion of the Maharaja had resulted in tremors amongst the British imperialists and much before return of the Maharaja from Europe to his State, the communal trouble had started.
The biggest proof of the intrigue of the imperialists was that the originator of July 13, incident was one Abdul Qadeer who was an outsider and had come to Kashmir with a Britisher high-up staying in Kashmir and his highly provocative speeches had resulted in communal problems.
In fact, Prof. Gupta maintained that July 13, 1931, incidents were linked with a communal shame and it was ridiculous to observe as July 13 as a day of remembrance, especially at the government level. He said that National Conference being the incarnation of the Muslim Conference, can have the right to observe July 13, as their Martyrs Day but Congress leaders owe an explanation that how it was a National Day and if it was so, why they observe it in the Valley alone and why there is no such an observance in Jammu areas, not to say of at the national level. If this day was being observed against the system and dynastic rule, whether it was not a fact that both the Congress and National Conference are perpetrating dynastic rule now themselves both at the Centre and in Jammu and Kashmir but under the garb of democracy, he alleged and impressed upon the State Governor and other high ups to go through the history of events before indulging in observing July 13, as a day of remembrance.
BJP leader appealed to the nationalist people to ask the leaders of the Congress and others to explain that how July 13, is a national day and who was Qadeer and British officer, who had inflamed the communal out bursts in Kashmir. He alleged that Congress is a big humbug in the country, more so, in Jammu and Kashmir and asserted that this party under the slogans of secularism had always been operating worst type of hypocrisy. Observance of July 13 is a proof of it, the BJP leader asserted.
