| NC torch bearer of martyr’s principles: Omar | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, July 12: Paying rich tributes to the martyrs of 13th July 1931, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has reminded the people of the great sacrifices the martyrs have rendered to free the people and the state from the clutches of autocracy and suppression. In his message, on the eve of the martyr’s day to be observed throughout the Jammu and Kashmir on July 13, Abdullah highlighted the role of martyrs in paving the way for independence from the totalitarian regime and ushering the state in an era of democracy and self respect. He said that Sher-i-Kashmir late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and his companions carried forward the martyrs struggle with firm determination and commitment. Omar said that National Conference under the leadership of Sher-i-Kashmir steered the ship through the tumult waters of dictatorship and anchored it to the safe shore of democracy and independence. “The popularly elected governments in a democratic way in the state since 1947 owes its existence to the struggle and sacrifice of the martyrs of 1931 and that of National Conference and its leadership”, he maintained. Abdullah said that NC has remained the torch bearer of the high principles of secular ethos, democratic values, human respect, sincerity and communal harmony upheld by the martyrs. “We have nurtured these principles in the past and would continue to safe-guard and strengthen these values “, he asserted and added that the best way to pay homage to the martyrs is to work for restoring peace and stability in the state. Chief Minister appealed to the people to contribute their might in strengthening the states democratic institutions and cementing the amity bonds between various sections of the society and the regions of the state. “Presently we are confronted with so many challenges “ he said and added that besides catapulting state’s development process there is urgent need to restore permanent peace and political stability in the state. He said the development and progress is directly dependent on the peace and tranquility of an area. “Unless peace is restored in its complete form the development process could not be carried forward to its logical goal”. Abdullah said that while government was working on various plans to generate employments for the youth in both private and government sectors, it also concentrates on enhancing the economic activities across the state so that benefits of development projects accrue to the people in the shortest possible time and thousands of, skilled and unskilled people get wage employment. “Everyone of us has a role to play in creating a conducive and peaceful atmosphere for the development projects to be launched and ongoing works to be completed to generate jobs and bring prosperity to the state” , he said. Abdullah added that the government’s keen interest to rope in private sector for the industrial growth and development in the state especially in the Valley require tranquil and favourable atmosphere for industrialists to venture in the state. “As such it is the responsibility of all of us to help maintain calm and peace for the larger interests of the state, Chief Minister said.
