| Headmaster suspended, DSE for discrepancies in SSA school | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT RAMBAN, JULY 12: Director School Education Jammu Zahida Khan paid surprise visit to several schools of various zones of Ramban district and found several loopholes in the functioning of the schools in far-flung areas. The Chief Education Officer (CEO), Ramban also accompanied her during two-day tour. At Kaskote, Khan visited High School Kaskote and Girls Middle School Kaskote. She found that the headmaster of Higher Secondary School, Kaskote had left the station on June 29 without prior sanction from Chief Education Officer, Ramban. She immediately ordered suspension of the Headmaster. On finding the building of Girls Middle School in a dilapidated condition, she directed the CEO to shift the school to alternate building. She also visited Primary School, Banihal and Middle School, Asher. The Director observed that several school building were constructed of sub-standard building material and were not been properly maintained. Primary School, Mandakbass building constructed under Sarva Siksha Abhivan was found to be sub-standard and Khan directed the CEO to conduct the enquiry of the engineers involved in the construction. Management of mid-day meal in the school was also poor. At Middle School, Kole, the director asked ZEO to make alternative arrangement for housing the students of the school and submit a proposal for new school building as the old one was in a dilapidated condition. She also instructed the officers to stop the practice of parking by Army personal in the High School, Nachilana. At Primary School, Zanihal, the Director observed that the student-teacher ratio was poor and for 65 students there were only two teachers. She asked the CEO to conduct periodic inspections of the schools and implement the government orders regarding opening of KG classes. While inspecting the kitchen shed for mid-day meal at Middle School, Asher, the Director asked the officials to maintain proper hygiene in the area and auction the dead stock lying in the schools. At Higher Secondary School, Khari, she found that the school was functioning properly inspite of lack of staff and accommodation. She asked the CEO to look at the possibility of accommodating the students in a private building adjacent to the school. Director interacted with numerous deputations enroute who apprised her of the problems faced by the far-flung villages in getting quality education. People of Lamber village informed her of shortage of staff in Middle School, Lamber upon which she directed the CEO to provide teachers to the school from the newly selected list of SSRB. Director also convened a meeting of all ZEOs, Principals and staff of DIET, Banihal to review the functioning of the Education department in the district.
