Ram Dayal, Vaid guide Kaku XI clinch Satish Memorial trophy

KATHUA, July 12: All round performance from Ram Dayal and superb knock from Vaid today guided Kaku XI Hiranagar to title win in Satish Memorial Cricket Tournament outplaying Kathua Blues by seven wickets in the final played at Sports Stadium, Hiranagar, here.

Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, Kathua Blues bowled out for 166 runs in 32.2 overs of the 35 overs, which, in reply, Kaku XI chased in just 25 overs for the loss of three wickets.

Vishal was top scorer with 52 (off 57 balls, 8x4) runs while Paras and Rompi contributed 23 and 18 runs respectively. From Kaku XI, Ram Dayal, Varinder (Jr) and Varinder (Sr) shared two wickets each.

Later, chasing a target of over four-run per over, Kaku XI overhauled the total rather easily making 168 runs in 25 overs with seven wickets in hand. Vaid played super innings of 72 (off 74 balls, 11x4, 6x6) while Ram Dayal hit a brilliant knock of 56-ball 67 runs studded with 13 boundaries. Abhishek bagged one wicket from Kathua Blues.

The final was officiated by Naresh Gupta and Mohan Lal as umpires while Abhishek Badyal and Vikas Khajuria maintained the score.

For his match winning all round performance, young and upcoming cricketer, Ram Dayal was adjudged man of the match. Man of the Series trophy went to Rajinder Singh of winners Kaku XI.

Chairman of JKCA, Mohd Aslam Goni was chief guest in the final and prize distribution function. Inspector General of Police, K Rajendra graced the occasion as guest of honour. Prominent among others present were Ramesh Mahajan, Ranjit Kalra and Shambu Nath Sharma.

Speaking to the gathering, chief guest expressed his satisfaction over the conduct of the event in a professional manner and patted the District Committee. To nurture the talent, he announced that Hiranagar would be considered as most preferred point for setting up of proposed cricket academies in the state.

As part of the prize money, the winners were given away Rs 10,000 as cash prize while runners-up got Rs 5,000. The winners and runners-up were also presented cash prize of Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 each by chief guest, Mohd Aslam Goni and IGP, K Rajendra as a token of encouragement. To boost the morale of the finalist teams, Chairman Cooperative Bank, Mohinder Singh also presented a cash incentive of Rs 5000.

The tournament, wherein 32 teams from the district took part, was organised by the District Kathua Cricket Committee under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association. The event was conducted under the guidance of Committee chairman, Ashok Sharma and convenor, Naresh Gupta as also other members.
