No move to have BPL survey of Muslims: Khursheed

New Delhi, Jul 13: Union Government has no proposal to conduct any survey to identify Muslims living below poverty line in each state to give them a BPL number, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.
Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khursheed, detailing about schemes formulated to improve the economic status of minorities, said in a written reply that the National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation, a PSC under his Ministry provided loans at concessional rates for self employment, income generating activities to persons belonging to minority communities living below poverty line.
It also provided micro credit through NGOs. He also said a proposal to amend the Wakf Act 1995 was under the consideration of the Government. A proposal for computerisation of data management in State Wakf Boards was also being worked out.
There was a proposal to bring reforms in Wakf sector and the details were being worked out.
On 100 days programme of the Government for the minorities, he said his ministry had selected five programmes and schemes under which intermediate milestones had been laid down to be achieved in time bound manner. The selected schemes aim to enable the derprived sections of population including minority communities to avail better opportunities, create an efficient wakf administration that could generate resources for welfare of the community. The Government envisaged to expand educational and economic opportunties for disadvantaged section of minorities through number of existing new schemes. A plan budgetary allocation of Rs 1740 crore had been made for the purpose.
