| Comrade Dhanvantri remembered | | |
Early Times Report Jammu July 13: To commemorate 56th Death Anniversary of Comrade Dhanwantri, a function was organized in the Dogri Bhawan Karan Nagar today by the Comrade Dhanwantri Manch. Rich tributes were paid to Comrade Dhanwantri who gave exemplary sacrifices fighting alongwith Shaheed-e-Aazm Bhagat Singh, Chander Shekhar Azad, Sukhdev, Rajguru, Shiv Verma and others for the freedom of India from the yolk of British Imperialism in this memorial function. The memorial function was presided over by presidium comprising: Prof. Nilamber Dev Sharma, H.C.Jalmeria advocate, B.S.Manhas Advocate, Parduman Singh Jandriya, Virinder Kesar and Dr Ghanisham Singh Charak. To start with Hari Chand Jalmeria advocate General Secretary of the Manch in his introductory note said that Dhanwantri was born on 7th March 1902 at Kali Janni Jammu, in the family of Dr Col. Durga Datt Mahey. After completing his matriculation from Sri Ranbhir Higher Secondary School, Com. Dhanwantri joined DAV College Lahore in 1917 where he joined National Liberation movement. Jalmeria said that Com. Dhanwantri had started private Ayurvedic practice at Sutarmandi Lahore after completing his Ayurvedic Course which in fact the revolutionaries Bhagat Singh, Chander Shekhar Azad, Shiv Verma, Sukhdev, Rajguru and others was used as contact place. ‘Dhanwantri was also jailed for ten years in Kala Pani (Port Blair), after his return in early forties, Dhanwantri came to Jammu and founded and guided movements of farmers, youth, students, writers. He also guided the National Conference in making its Naya Kashmir Programme. He was the guide for big landed estates abolition and other revolutionary pro-people measures, Jalmeria said. Dhanwantri was the fountain head of guidance for political activists during the crucial period after 1947. Others, who spoke included K.K.Koushal, JA Kazmi Advocate, Bansi Lal Sharma Advocate, Surinder Singh Manhas, Hari Datt Shishu, Swaran Singh, Pritam Gupta, Sunil Dimple, Amarvir Manhas, Romesh Sharma, Kamal Singh Jamwal. It was resolved to impress upon the Jammu Municipal Corporation and the State Govt. to make memorial of Com. Dhanwantri in Jammu City.
