| In Pahalgam, Mufti calls for sustained struggle | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar July 13: Peoples Democratic Party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has reiterated his call for serious and sustained efforts for a permanent solution of Jammu and Kashmir issue.
A final and amicable solution alone can prevent recurrence of the kind of unrest that is witnessed by the state at present he told a large gathering of party workers at Pahalgam today.
Advising patience and urging the workers not to get worked up at the cheap and ridiculous government tactics to target PDP through its propaganda machine, Mufti asked them to utilize their strength and energies instead on promoting the political agenda of the party. He said PDP must work with singular zeal for a permanent solution to our problems and not get bogged down into a tit-for-tat match of words by blatant lies about him or the party.
Paying rich tributes to the martyrs of 13th July, Mufti said their mission was unfortunately sabotaged before it could translate into full empowerment of the people they sacrificed their lives for. PDP, he said had come into existence only with the purpose of struggling for a dignified solution to the political and economic problems facing the state and it would not rest till full empowerment of the people was achieved as enunciated in its Self Rule document.
Referring to the current unrest in most parts of the state, Mufti said government of India must re launch the peace process which had in fact been stalled after 2006 and is now apparently held hostage to the fallout of Mumbai attacks. He said the streets in Kashmir reflect only the sentiment underlying decades of uncertainty which is now being triggered by frequent violations of human rights.
Addressing the workers, the senior party vice president Molvi Iftikhar Hussein Ansari said the government it seemed had solved all the problems facing people and it was left with PDP as the only source of discomfort. He condemned the blatant lies being churned out by government media almost everyday against PDP and said the totally baseless story fed to media about the so called demonstration against Mufti Mohammad Sayeed at Pahalgam was only the latest instance of its pointless propaganda war. MLA Pahalgam Rafi Ahmed Mir also addressed the gathering.
