| Pilgrim dies after Amarnath visit | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, July 13: A 28-year-old pilgrim died on Monday after paying obeisance at the 3,880 metre high Amarnath cave taking the death toll during the ongoing yatra to 28, official sources said. According to official sources, Raguveer Singh, a resident of Delhi, breathed his last at a private hospital here this morning, after he complained of suffocation and breathlessness on his return from the cave shrine on Saturday. He was admitted at Baltal base camp hospital and after initial treatment was referred to the private hospital for specialised treatment on Saturday. With his death, the number of persons who died during the ongoing yatra has risen to 28. The dead included two Muslim porters, who came under a landslide on Baltal route on June 17, two days after the commencement of the two-month yatra. A spokesman of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) while expressing concern over the death of pilgrims said lack of acclimatisation to the high altitude environment coupled with intermittent inclement weather and snowfalls, a number of yatris have been losing their lives every year, largely due to cardiac arrest. Meanwhile, over 5500 pilgrims left for the holy cave shrine from Baltal and Nunwan base camps this morning. While, 3708 pilgrims proceeded towards the cave from shortest 16 kilometre Baltal route, 1900 pilgrims were allowed from Nunwan along the traditional 45 kilometer Pahalgam track, the sources said. They said the yatra was going on smoothly from both the sides.
