| Farooq, Omar, Ministers visit martyrs’ graveyeard, offer tributes | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, JULY 13 – Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah and Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Dr. Farooq Abdullah today visited Mazar-e-Shauda at Naqashband Sahib, here and paid floral tributes to the martyrs of July 13, 1931. They offered fateha in their memory and prayed for peace and prosperity of the State. Ministers, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, Mr. Taj-Mohi-ud-Din, Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar, Mr. S. S. Slathia and Mr. Nasir Aslam Wani, Political Advisor to the Chief Minister, Mr. Devender Singh Rana and Director General of Police, Mr. Kuldeep Khoda, besides legislators and senior civil and police officers were also present on the occasion. A large number of people also joined in to pay tributes to the brave martyrs while police contingents gave ceremonial salutes in their honour to mark the occasion. The Chief Minister said the best way to pay homage to martyrs who attained martyrdom for democracy and independence of the State from clutches of autocrac is to untidily work for restoration of peace in the State. He urged people to contribute their might in revival of normalcy so that development process is carried forward speedily to achieve the goal of prosperity in the State. Several people laid down their lives on July 13, 1931 for independence from totalitarianism and for putting State firmly on path of democracy. Under Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah’s command, his companions have remained torchbearers of secularism, democratic values, self respect and communal harmony for which the martyrs laid down their lives. The day also reminds people of the death of Abdul Qadeer, who was the dear assistant of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and had joined him in the fight against oppressive rule. The title of lion was conferred to Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah when he hoisted the red banner indicating sacred blood of people for restoration of their democratic rights and strengthening the pillars of secularism, brotherhood and mutual love in the State.
