| Measures discussed for transport regulation in Rajouri, Poonch | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, JULY 13: Regional Transport Officer, Jammu Division, Jammu visited the far flung areas of Rajouri and Poonch districts and held a meeting with Chairmen (District Development Commissioners) of Regional Transport Authority, Rajouri and Poonch for improving the transport system. A detailed road survey of both the districts have been completed and the routes where more services are required have been identified. Road upgradation and road safety measures to be taken at different locations have also been chalked out by the team of Motor Vehicle Department. During the visit, the RTO visited the important link roads i.e Thanamandi, Darhal, Surankot, Mandi, Mendhar, Nowshera and Sunderbani in order to assess the transport needs of the area in order to check over-loading and providing better facilities by way of increasing frequency of transport services in some of the areas in Shahdhara Sharief, Surankot and other link roads. It was also informed that the ARTO office Rajouri has been fully computerized and will start functioning shortly thus making the system more transparent and responsive to the needs of the public. The meeting with Presidents of Jammu-Poonch Passenger Bus Services Group and Mini Bus Union was also held in order to asses their problems in view of the bad condition of roads in these districts for which the Deputy Commissioner was accordingly requested to convene a meeting of the concerned agencies viz. R&B, Beacon and other for upgradation of roads in the identified link roads.
