CAPD Minister Akhoon takes stock of yatra arrangements

SRINAGAR, JULY 14- The Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) and Transport, Mr. Qamar Ali Akhoon soon after assuming the charge of his ministry, yesterday evening visited Baltal base camp of Amarnath Yatra and took stock of the facilities available there for the yatries.
The Minister was accompanied by MLA Zanskar, Mr. Feroz Ahmad Khan, MLC Aga Sayeed Ahmad, Transport Commissioner, Mr. A.K. Mohanty , Director CAPD Kashmir, Mr. Mehraj Din Kenu, Dy. Commissioner Ganderbal, SP Ganderbal, RTO Kashmir and other senior officers of various departments.
After reviewing the stock position at Baltal, the Minister expressed his satisfaction over the arrangements made for yatries at the base camp with regard to food grains, LPG, medical facilities. He called upon the concerned authorities to ensure sufficient qualities of food grains available to the yatries at all the sale outlets during yatra period at Baltal base camp. While interacting with yatries, ponywallas and locals about the facilities provided by the government, he was informed that better arrangements have been made by the administration for smooth conduct of the yatra.
Enroute various deputations met the Minister at Sonamarg, Gund and Kulhan who putforth their demands. The Minister gave on spot instructions to the authorities of Power Development Department, Ganderbal to visit the spot at Sonamarg and initiate measures for redressing the power problems of the people of Sonamarg area. He also asked Chief Executive Officer, Tourism Development Authority, Sonamarg to redress the problems of people of Sonamarg with respect to Tourist related issues.
Responding to the demand of the Truck drivers, the Minister gave on spot directions for ensuring functioning of weighing machine from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. instead of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. besides allowing trucks to carry extra 3 quintals of load.
The Minister also convened a meeting of officers and public representatives at Ganderbal. The public representatives raised the issue of shortage of food grains in the district.
The Minister instructed the Director CA&PD to ensure immediate supply of sufficient quantity of food grains within weeks time in the 82 sale centers of the district. He also instructed for shifting of office of the Assistant Director, CAPD at district headquarter Ganderbal within 3 days positively so that consumers of the district may not suffer any more for want of ration supplies.
In response to a point raised by DC Ganderbal regarding Bus stand at Ganderbal, the Minister said the matter will be looked into on priority.
