| Peeping into past: Azad’s native villagers demand separate constituency | | | Bhaderwah, Sep 27 : The native inhabitants of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad are gathering under one umbrella to fight for restoration of Bhallessa-Bonjwah Constituency, which was existed till 1967 election. Residents of Bhallessa and Bonjwah have constituted a Non-Governmental Organization which is headed by the brother-in-law of the Chief Minister. The main objective of this organization was said to be the restoration of this constituency that was dissolved in 1967. A local resident said that Bhallessa-Bonjwah Constituency was main dominated by National Conference candidates and the last MLA elected from this constituency was was Munshi Anwar Rather of Soti village. He was an MLC till 1964 and became MLA when AG Goni was elected MP. The constituency was dissolved and a new one - Inderwal Constituency – was created and its first election was held in 1967, when NC candidate AG Goni was declared winner. The news constituency, however, saw the bifurcation of many areas under Gandoh tehsil. Some part of the Bhallessa was kept with Bhaderwah and some with Inderwal Constituency and the arrangement exists till now. However, the recent constitution of delimitation commission has generated a new hope among the general masses of the area who now feel that they would once again get their identity back. “Our lost identity can be restored only if the constituency is curved out once again”, said Zakir Hussain, a local resident. People here even alleged that the decision to abolish Bhallessa constituency was taken on the guidance of some political leaders who were not sincere in the development of this area. “It was dissolved through conspiracy” said Muhammad Hanif, a resident of Kilhotran. |
